“Run,” “Throw,” “Fly”
It has long been said that “eating,” “sleeping,” and “playing” are essential for children’s development. It is within creative and imaginative play that children’s desire to create is nurtured, and above all, the foundation of building a strong body is established.
During our daily outdoor play, the children move their bodies to the fullest, running around and engaging in physical activities. The three essential elements of “Running,” “Throwing,” and “Flying” are cultivated through our outdoor play every day.
Many daycare centers in urban areas lack their own playgrounds, and we at HAPPY HORIZONS are no exception. However, we make it a point to go outside every day, as it is one of the children’s greatest wishes.
Fortunately, there are four parks within walking distance, offering various playgrounds, nature, and vast grassy fields. In addition, we frequently use our school bus to visit large parks such as Komazawa Park and Nogechou Park.
During our Reggio Emilia-inspired project activities, if the children need a dry tree branch, acorns, or fallen leaves, we quickly head to Komazawa Park to collect them.
It is a blessing that so many parks are located in Setagaya, even within the heart of the city, fulfilling the children’s curiosity. Most importantly, daily outdoor play contributes to the children’s health and well-being, which goes without saying.
